Jacob had just enough time to hate Lilith a lot for the blow to the head that was making this fight more difficult then he wanted it to be as the shadow monster hurdled itself up the stairs. Interestingly, it didn't hop into or use shadows liKe the shadow girl, Dragon, would. Once it was "solid," so to speak, maybe it stayed that way; at least without Lilith, who they'd left behind, fortunately, there to specifically control it.
It was stupid, too. He had even thrown wind at it, and it had followed him up onto the roof anyway. Seriously, the roof. There was a storm coming; that's why he'd been heading up to meditate and possibly fly anyway!
Hopefully this wouldn't take the whole storm so he could still catch a quick flight in. He'd be really mad at Lilith if he missed his storm because of her.
As it was, with the winds slowly picking up around the storm, he had plenty of ammunition. Now that he was out of the confining school hallways, he let his wings flair out fully. They were quite a sight to behold, he supposed, at least the first time. He kept them so cramped and tucked in when he was inside that people seemed surprised when they realized just how huge his wings were. He began flapping them, which was sort of undignified, but with all of them stretched out, it created tons of wind for him to do whatever he wanted with. He sent out a much larger slice of air, trying to figure out what would happen if he cut the creature clean in half. He might have to wind up exploding it from the inside, but he had to make sure he thought it would work, first.

Had it been sunny, Troggle would had a bigger problem with coming onto the roof - more open space, less shadows, and bright light. He would have worse than a disadvantage. With the storm, at least, there was the absence of the bright light that bothered him, weakened him. In this par-darkness, he was stronger. He emerged snarling from the staircase, ready and raring, only to be struck squarely by the slicing air. His form, still semi-shadow, split apart. It hovered there for a moment, two halves of a whole, before quickly and cleanly knitting itself back together. He shook his head out, snorting and scraping soundlessly at the ground with his claws. Had he been in his completely solid form, that might have knocked him out of commission for a little while.. lucky him.
And of course that meant he'd have to be more careful when he became solid. Choosing his point wisely. He could dodge around for ages as a half-shadow, but do no damage to his opponent. Raging shadows were never the most clever of thinkers, of course, but he knew enough. Could think quickly enough. He had only one plan, but that was much more than could be said for some.

It fixed itself. Boo. But it was just sitting there, really. Had the attack stunned it? Jacob wasn't exactly sure how intelligent this thing was, but he'd err on the side of intelligence until it was proven stupid.
He'd already learned, however, that standing back and throwing air wouldn't do him any good. He'd also learned that a blade of air would split apart the shadow. Now he only had one question, really... How many pieces did he have to break it into before it didn't get back up again? There had to be an answer. There was nothing that couldn't be broken. He'd thought of these things.
If Kadin, the fire manipulator, went haywire (semi-possible), Jacob could manipulate the fire as well as the other boy could, or elliminate it altogether by too much or not enough air. If Ashley, the plant manipulator, went haywire (possible), Jacob could go up out of her range and take her, the person, out. If Mika, the girl who could talk to animals, went haywire (semi-possible), he'd have to knock her out before she could find something that could do serious damage. If...
He jerked his mind back to the current situation, Lilith, the shadow manipulator, going haywire (innevitable). He'd been a little uncertain, and his plan had actually involved a brighter day than today, or having another person nearby, or knocking Lilith out. In this situation, however, none of those things were going to happen (or help). So he went for Plan E, shooting towards the shadow like a lunatic and trying to get at least one part of his body somewhat inside of it. It was okay if it got a hold of him or broke his leg or something. As long as he was right on top of it. Plus he didn't actually need all of his limbs functioning to win on a day like this, so it was an acceptable loss.

HA, so it rushing towards him! Troggle shot out of the way, bounding swiftly across the stone roof. Of course, the winged one had the air on his side, and was plenty quick in his own right. Troggle let himself remain light and loose, but while it made it easier to move around, it still wasn't enough... fine then. He'd have to downgrade a little. With an irate hiss, he almost seemed to liquefy, his form instantly sinking into a flat image on the surface of the roof. He flashed around, quickly, trying his best to run circles around the mutant-boy to confuse him. Once he was nice and turned about by this, Troggle would phase at a double-click, and that would be enough. It wasn't the most inspired plan, sure, but less inspired notions had worked in other situations for other people. Perhaps the shadow monster had a chance...
Back inside the confines of the castle, there was a loud thud as Lilith managed to slip and go falling onto the floor, sliding right past the staircase in the process. She cursed once, under her breath, and got quickly back to her feet, ready to charge up to where the others were. What exactly she was hoping to accomplish? ...she just wanted to stop them. Stop this whole, crazy, batshit madness. Nothing made sense anymore, and she'd really rather just.. wake up from this whole mess. It had to be a dream, right? Nothing this insane ever happened, not even when her world had been so topsy-turvy the last few years. Something had to break, yeah - she'd just been hoping it wasn't her sanity.

It was smart enough for that, at least. Jacob contemplated his options for a moment before going with the one that would end this the quickly.
He made a bit of a show of trying to keep track of the shadow beast as it shot around, then slowly losing it and turning around rapidly and looking uncertain. That sort of thing. If he looked off balance, the creature should feel confident enough to attack. And to attack, it would be solid, and then he'd have it.
In reality, he kept a decent track on where it was. It was hard, without looking like he was, but he had to at least be aware of which direction it was coming from so he could give it an arm or leg rather than, say a wing. Or his head. Both of those things would be bad.

He fell for it - of course he fell for it. Growing smug, overly-confident the more he shot around and around, twisting circles on the ground beneath the winged boy. He'd pause every moment or so, like a lure, crouching and arching his back silently in a threat, before continuing his lightning rampage. Then, once he was certain the human (was it human? It was so different from his girl) was thoroughly confused and completely at a lose for confidence, he struck. He flashed right beneath the boy, emerging around the other side of him, and leapt upwards, peeling away from the floor and roaring into life with an exuberant hiss...
... and as he did so, Lilith finally reached the top of the staircase. She skidded to a halt at the top, nearly falling back down them, and froze. Wait, WAIT!
"WAIT!" She screamed the word at Troggle - and he did not hear her.

Thankfully for all of them, Jacob wasn't easily distracted, and Lilith's scream didn't really slow either of them down at all. He managed to pity her for a moment, though; it had to be rough, accidentally trying to kill your upperclassman and all. But hopefully this would be enough of a wake up call for that stupid girl to actually take the world a little more seriously for once in her life. He'd read her records, after all.
Jacob had more important things to consentrate on at the present, however. As he'd expected, the creature darted underneath him. Normally this would be a problem, but that storm was coming in fast. Thunder rolled in the background and the wind was picking up, stronger and faster. As the shadow slipped under him, he jumped.
He jumped, and he went up... then stayed up.
A normal person wouldn't be able to flip backwards in midair after that kind of a jump, but he seemed to almost hover as the wind lifted him up and he flipped upsidedown.
The creature grabbed onto his left arm into his shadowy jaws, reaching up with a roar. Jacob winced, just a little, as the jaws closed, way more powerful than what a beast made out of shadow should really have, as far as he was concerned. He could feel things snapping. Important things. Pain flared, but he couldn't loose focus. Still upsidedown, since the beast was faster than it looked, he poured as much as air as he could along the sides of his arm, creating a small vacuum largely on accident. As he fell, his arm cracking in one more unpleasant way, he used the air he'd gathered to blow outwards as hard as he could, in all directions. It was essentially an air explosion, and he hoped it'd slice the shadow creature into small enough piece that it would essentially die. If not, he'd have to try something else.

Jaws locked, triumph was felt, victory was had - but it was all short-lived for Troggle. As hard a fight as he had put up, as much grinding determination as he'd had, as much roaring ferocity, he was no match for Jacob's skill in the fight. The air poured into him, and his eyes expanded in shock as his body did. It built up and up and up, and in only a split second, it was too much.
-BOOM-
The air rent, and Troggle flared off into shadowy sparks that wisped around for only a moment before dying. The force of the flameless explosion sent a wave of air shooting outwards in every direction, pressing against both Jacob and Lilith, the latter of which it knocked off her feet and backwards into the wall beside the entryway, shoulder cracking painfully against the hard stone. The pain was somewhat lessened by the adrenaline she felt, but it didn't change the fact that later it was going to hurt like fuck. She shook her head, looking up just in time to see the scarlet-tipped wings of Jacob vanish over the edge of the stone.
FUCK NO. NO! She was 100% positive that she'd just killed him. She was never going to forgive herself.

Jacob felt a rush of burning addrenaline fire through his chest as the shadow's shape inflated, distorted, and then finally, exploded. That was the thrill of victory, and also possibly the best feeling in the world. He knew all the science behind it, of course, why it felt good, why he enjoyed it, and why it made him forget about the fact his arm was not supposed to go that way. But that didn't stop him from enjoying it.
Unfortunately his enjoyment couldn't last more than about three milliseconds, because that big of an explosion couldn't not do damage.
His wings caught the sudden burst of air and shuddered, wanting to fold backwards. He struggled to keep them open, knowing that he'd have some serious problems if his head hit stone again today. He just saw Lilith having that exact problem (shit, if he had to carry her to the infirmary with one arm he was going to lose it) before he went over the edge.
The castle was pretty tall. It wasn't like falling of a skyscraper, he imagined, but it was a hell of a fall. Of course, Jacob wasn't scared of falling. Nothing with wings was afraid of falling. He'd been falling on a regular basis since he was five (an unfortunate side effect of liking high up places), and he'd never been seriously injured. And with the addrenaline already in his system, it was actually the easiest part of the day so far. He just buoyed himself in a cushion of air and slowed his decent by throwing a steady counter-wind. He landed gently, on his feet, gave himself a second to catch his breath, then spread his wings and, thanks to the storm that was coming ever closer (he wasn't going to get to enjoy it, either, that stupid girl), he was able to simply spread his wings... and fly.
If Lilith was still conscious, she probably had a hell of a site with him flying back up over the wall like that. He landed again (at least he'd gotten a little flight in), and was just about to ask Lilith if she was in one piece when the door to the roof slammed open once again.
