Gah, she had to admit - things moved really fast these days. Every time she turned around, BAM. There was someone else. It was beginning to make her head spin... ugh, there it went. She shook it off, catching the eyes of the strange, young girl again. She hesitated a moment, then flipped her own hood up and followed. After all, she'd better get out of here, too. Not a good place for someone like her to get caught, not at all... Xanthur cling to the fabric of her cloak, nuzzled against her. "...Let's get out of here," she murmured.
'Let's,' he mewed in agreement. With that, the pair went after the rest. Maybe on a normal day, Mika would have felt a prickle of awareness near the strange boy - whatever a normal day was for her. However, the sensation she got from being near Kou already had her on edge. So it was she failed to noticed. As they walked by, a pair of emerald eyes, small and feline, narrowed at the blonde-haired frame.
Suddenly, a screech split the air. A slick white shape dive-bombed in, stopping to hover in front of Kou with powerful flaps of black-spotted wings. Sharp blue eyes stared at the red-eyed one, and his talons stretched out in plea for him to extend his arm. To Mika, she heard more than the feathered flapping.
'Kraaaa! Red-eyes never stretch out no-feather-wing, tccch!' He seemed to be mumbling to himself in her ears. 'Take scroll from claw, yes! Give Karken rest? Noes! Tch, kraaaaka! Never let Karken land, Karken tired! Stupid red-eyes...' Tied to the bird's leg was a leather pouch, within laying a small scroll of paper. If one were to remove the message, it would say:

He stuck his tongue out at the little cat as they passed, pulling his hands out of his pockets to cross his arms. Bunch of weirdos... his gaze moved from person to person, ignoring the bird and staying on the younger dark-haired girl. Curiosity was apparent in his expression, as he rarely had reason to hide it.
These people acted like cat ears on a person were normal. Were they? Had he been missing something his entire life? He tilted his head to one side, his eye glued to the back of her head. It was rude to stare at a stranger, sure - who cared? Not her, he hoped. They'd already been rude, ignoring someone's question like that, so he'd return the favor. Not that he wouldn't have done it anyway...
Quiet now, he leaned back against the cool brick wall and looked them all over once more. It really was a weird group... he wondered if they knew each other. They all seemed fairly calm about the ears. Maybe not the best group to annoy today. He straightened his cloak a bit, watching to see what they would do.

“Sorry, Karken...” Kou mumbled as he quickly reached into the pouch and removed the paper. After quickly scanning the note he let out a troubled sigh. Well at least she is okay... He thought to himself. Fishing around in his bag for a moment he pulled out a quill. Muttering a quick spell, the dry tip of the quill was saturated with thick black ink. He quickly scribbled something onto the back of the note and replaced it in the pouch.
“Take this back to her, Karken, make sure she gets it!” He shooed the bird off, turning once again to continue walking down the alleyway. Now that he knew she was okay he could breathe a sigh of relief. He wasn’t worried about her not being able to find him. She always seemed to find him in no time at all. It was as though she had her own inner Kou tracker. He hoped that she would find him soon. They were already losing daylight, and he wanted to check out that ruin outside of town. It was probably another dead-end lead, but it was worth a try. They hadn’t found a clue in weeks and he was beginning to get desperate.

Kiroi watched the bird, Karken, swoop down and flutter infront of the boy. She also heard the chatter he was making. The boy mumbled an apology to the bird and took the scroll out, reading it and then writing another note on the back of it before shooing the bird away again. He began to walk away again. Kiroi once again wondered who this stranger was.
Suddenly, Kiroi started to feel uncomfortable. Someone was staring at the back of her head. She turned her head and lifted her head to look at the blonde boy with her violet eyes. So it was him. She disliked it when people stared at her like she was some freak...or a Monster. Is that what this boy thought she was? She stared at him a moment longer, the confusion and slight discomfort showing on her face before she lowered her head, looked away, and continued walking.

Xanthur growled under his breath, making Mika reach up to check if he was okay. "...something wrong?" she whispered to him, and he turned to look at her. She could see something lurking in the back of his eyes - some emotion he refused to mention. Even now, he stayed silent, brooding.. just sitting there upon her shoulder. She sighed to herself, shaking her head. Jeez.. what was with everything today? It was like it had all turned upside down. People with cat-ears and tails... heh. She remembered as a child, wishing for a tail. Some days she still did. Like when she'd trip an- thud. Oh hai rock. You seem to have tripped someone.
...apparently the curse still ran strong. There had to be a way to get around that. She picked herself up quickly, shooting off a curse or two to herself in the process. Random rocks, small overhangs, slippery logs... what HADN'T tripped her up in her life? Flash had once mentioned a way around the familial curse, but he'd said he didn't know anything other than there WAS one. Ugh. She hated things like this... wait, she was distracted again, she had to pull her head back before she tripped on something again. Damn. She really had to stop doing that...
~~~
Not far off, a white shape fluttered back down from the sky, leather pouch containing a message. He landed on a small arm, and eager fingers removed a paper message from a pouch. She'd been waiting long enough all ready... it was time to get going. "Oh, good job, Kark! Just like always, heehee." The falcon ruffled his feathers proudly - SHE always appreciated him. He moved his way up her arm to rest on her shoulder, screeching into the air again. "Okay, okay, we're going now!" She petted a soft white shape on the ground beside her, as the falcon rustled his wings eagerly. "Come on, Lamby! Time to go find him, at LAST! Teehee!" With that, she set off. Yep, she'd find him in no time, no matter what!
Aw, they were all walking away... he moved to follow and faltered, wondering if it was such a good idea. It certainly seemed like a suspicious group. Suspicious in both ways, he figured, though he wasn't really one to talk. Would it cause a problem...? They certainly wouldn't get through any crowd of people without a few weird looks.
Still, a large group was less likely to be stopped by guards than just one kid, so he quickly picked up the pace again and trailed behind them. If they right-out went and told him to stop, he would, but nobody had said a word to him yet. Besides, he was curious about the girl with the ears... were they even real? He kind of wanted to approach her and tug on one. Real cats hated that, though, so it would be better to ask first...
He slowed down a bit when the other one tripped to give her room, fiddling absentmindedly with one of his gloves. How long would they stay here? He still had two days to go, so it wasn't too much of a problem, but the worry could never seem to completely subside. If they stayed longer he'd just have to leave on his own, suspicious guards or no. Sigh. His hands went back in his pockets and he continued to pad after them after the girl got up. May as well see where they're going first, before he started to plan ahead of time.
Kou glanced behind him at the crew he had somehow picked up and sighed. His kindness always seemed to get him into trouble... He hoped that this wouldn’t slow them down from getting a chance to thoroughly examine those ruins before nightfall. All of the nasty monsters always came out at night, and he would rather they did not have a repeat of last time.
One thing was certain, they couldn’t return to this village. The man he had knocked out in the alleyway was bound to wake up soon, and once he did he would tell all of his friends about the supposed monster with red eyes lurking through the shadows ready to prey upon innocent townspeople.... He would probably even thrown in some bogus story about chasing the monster off, just to see if maybe he could get that bounty. Either way, this town was no longer safe for him.
Part of him felt bad... He didn’t think it was fair that she should be driven off from towns and cities just because her traveling companion was a freak. She didn’t seem to mind, at least if she did she didn’t let Kou know. He was grateful to her for that.
Kiroi saw the boy glance back at them. She wondered if he minded having them there. He seemed like he was more of a loner type. Part of her wanted to try and talk to him or at least find out what his name was. It was kind of strange. Nobody in this group knew each other's names. It seemed like they had accepted her for the moment and she was grateful for that, but she still couldn't be sure about them.
Kiroi slowly began to lose herself in her own thoughts. She thoguht about the events of the past few days again. So many things had happened; her village-spooking, and meeting these new people. Come to think of it, she had gotten lost too after she was chased out of that town. She had gone in circles for hours before figuring out which way was the way out of that forest. She wondered what would happen now. Would they all stay together or split up once they were out of this village? She didn't want to cause them any trouble, but she also wished for some company. She got lonely quite often, traveling alone. Though, there were times she liked being solitary.
Kiroi sighed and continued walking, staring at the ground. A sudden memory surfaced, one of her parents...and the night she lost them. Under her hood, her ears flattened against her head and the cloth actually rustled a bit that time. She lowered her head a bit more and narrowed her eyes, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to come out. What was wrong with her today? She was usually never this emotional around other people. She found she couldn't hold the tears back, the memory was too strong. At least they can't see them... she thought to herself.
Xan's tail flicked as he leapt from Mika's shoulder to the ground, pausing to give his shoulder a quick lick. He meowed, then padded forth to Kiroi. His senses tingled with the emotions she let out, although he doubted the other humans around her could sense them. It was always sort of a cat thing, wasn't it? He mewed again as he reached her ankles, and, without awaiting a response, clambered his way up the cloth of her cloak to her shoulder. He was small enough to get away with it, luckily. He shook out his fur, then clung there, examining her face with gentle emerald eyes. '...you look like you've had it rough, little kitten. Might you be willing to explain to an old cat how someone like you ended up in such a state, all alone out here and talking to cats?' His whiskers gave a little twitch, and if he'd been close enough, he would have given her cheek a rough lick. Poor kit... so young, already looked so distraught, so nervous. Tsk. It upset him.
Mika looked after Xan, growing slightly frustrated. Huph... Xanthur was HER guardian. Why padding up after her already? Go figure, some random chick with cat ears wanders into the world, and suddenly it's all about her. Pah. More interested in the cat freak then the dragon freak? ...then again, who knew how long they would be together? This might be his only chance to talk with her. Xan liked to talk, but... few had the gift to listen. Ahh, well. She'd let him have his fun, for now. Instead, she focused on the boy in back - something about the one in front made the hair raise on the back of her neck. She glanced over her shoulder, only the slightest trace of luminescent gold leaking out from her hood now.
He didn't seem to bad, following them without a fuss.. but she didn't trust him. As it was, even the red-eyes out in front made her nervous. Red-eyes... she felt that like that should trigger something in the back of her mind, but she just couldn't remember... couldn't remember. No. The only one she was even beginning to be remotely comfortable with right now was the girl on whose shoulder Xan currently perched. She trusted anything with animal parts more than a creepy kid and a boy who made her skin crawl.
Terryn cocked his head to one side and gave a little wave, hoping he didn't look too threatening. Why should he? Short kid in need of a good meal and a haircut, ooh, scary... but they all seemed so suspicious of him. It wasn't like he had anything bad planned, right?
...Well, that sort of depended on your perspective. Using a group of strangers to get around without any trouble from the law enforcement: harmful? Of course not! ...As long as he didn't get any of them arrested. He'd figure things out as he went along. He'd improvise! That's how he always did things and it turned out all right most of the time. No one-hundred percent guarantee, but it was close enough for Terryn.
Smiling now, he skipped forward a bit to walk closer to her, thinking that it might make him seem a little less standoffish. Here's hoping she wouldn't bite his head off...
