Lyra remained silent, sitting down softly, so as not to aggravate her wound any more. She couldn't believe that this had happened. It had been her first mission as a captain, and judging by the way things had gone, quite possibly her last.
Surrender now, and we will spare you. Morgarus has mercy for those who ask for it...
Twilight will never beg from the likes of you!
... Is that so? I hope those words mean a lot to you, for they will be your last.
Something must have happened. Someone was leaking information. The very thought of a traitor made her sick to her stomach. She trusted every one of her companions. They were all fighting for freedom, weren't they...? Imagining someone sleeping, eating, and training in the same camp was unbelievable, something out of the worst nightmare

The moment the door had shut and the man was gone, another man appeared beside Traziun out of thin air.
"Tell the Twilight what happened, and make sure that Lyra's okay."
The man nodded, and without a word, followed the other man out of the door.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I'd like a beer over here, please" Traziun called to a woman behind the counter.
"You'll have sit up here if you want it," she responded, glaring at him with what he considered an unnecessary amount of anger. He knew she thought he was one of Morgarus' men.
"Here you go," she said, slamming a mug of beer onto the bar. Traziun flipped her a gold coin and she caught it and rolled her eyes. "I don't have change for this," she said. "I didn't ask for any," he responded, and gave her a small smile that she did not return.
He waved his hand over the mug of beer and muttered a long string of words under his breath. A face appeared inside the glass. Traziun spoke to it, whispering "I just spoke to Hans."
"And?" The face asked, looking just as angry as the barmaid had done. Traziun wondered if it was too much to ask for a little bit of gratitude from anyone.
"And," Traziun responded, "he says the ambush was successful."
"Good."
"I assume by your lack of satisfaction that you've already heard about Rukator being taken over?"
"Yes."
"Well, pass on the good news, and tell everyone that I won't be finished with my orders for another few weeks."
"I'll let them know." The face disappeared.
Traziun left the pub, leaving his completely undrunk mug of beer at the counter.

Erebus bandaged Lyra's wound as best he could, then put her arm over his shoulders to help support her.
"Hopefully you'll be okay for now, but if we don't get back to camp soon and get that wound properly cleaned and dressed..." Erebus stopped talked and began walking at a pace the wounded captain he was supporting could keep up with.
"Do you have any idea which way the camp is? This forest is like a spider's web..."

"Huh...?" Lyra looked up at him, as though he had startled her. Her eyes came slowly back into focus as she pushed the night's horrors to the furthest corner of her mind. "I..."
She looked around. The entire forest was a blur of green, blue and black. She had lost so much blood, she could no longer even see straight. Her sense of direction was nowhere near reliable. "I don't know."
The truth was, she was so busy trying to escape that she didn't pay any attention to what way she was running, and now they were completely and utterly lost. The forest here was like a labyrinth. Everything seemed to look the same. She tried desperately to decipher some sort of sign. She wasn't exactly sure what she was looking for, anything that might help strike an idea in her mind, something that might bring awareness back to her. She tried to hold onto that thought, concentrate on walking. One more step... just one more step...

Traziun wondered how long it would take for Tirran -- the man he had sent to look for Lyra -- to find her. He knew he'd be able to find her faster than Traziun himself would be able to, because Tirran was more advanced in non-destructive areas of magic such as tracking spells and teleportation but still, Traziun thought he might as well go look for Lyra too. He left the city and entered a neighboring forest.

Erebus sighed. The two were completely lost in a deep forest in enemy territory, and they had no idea where either friend or foe could be.
Erebus glanced over at Lyra and could see that she was fading. He quickened his pace and tried to make the traveling easier on the captain.
Suddenly the young marksman heard shouting and the faint sound of leaves and twigs crunching and snapping under iron sabatons. Morgarus troops were approaching, and Erebus had to find a place to hide! Lyra was in no way fit to try and outrun them, so he half pulled Lyra to a rotting trunk covered in dead leaves and encircled with huge roots. He would hide her in there, and if he needed to, he would fight.

Lyra groaned softly their pace quickened. She could hear the shouting as well. Morgarus' troops were close. Upon seeing the rotting trunk, she thought she might have a bit of an idea what her companion was thinking. She felt herself being pulled into the hollow, and leaned heavily against the backing. The smell of damp soil and rotting wood pervaded her already dulled sense, leaving a bitter taste in the back of her throat.
"...Have to... Quiet..." She mumbled, raising a shaky hand and placing it on the hilt of her sword. She knew that she was in no condition to fight; it was more of a habit than anything.
She heard the sounds of footsteps and voices getting closer, and strained her ears, hoping to catch a string of their conversation.

TIRRAN, who had been frantically searching the forest for survivors of the ambush, paused as he heard shouting from nearby. No one who was trying to escape Morgarus would be giving away their position, it had to be the enemy. Tirran quickly turned invisible.

As soon as Lyra was well hidden, Erebus got out both his repeating crossbow and his modified arbalest. They were both loaded and ready to fire, but he wanted to avoid that situation if possible.
He readied the crossbow in one hand and slung the large arbalest over his shoulder and he gripped the stock. At this range the arbalest would go straight through a soldier in full armor. The larger and more powerful version of his crossbow would only be good for one shot once he fired however, because it was relatively slow to reload. He would have to make the shot count.
Erebus crouched behind the rotting trunk as the footsteps neared.

Lyra tried to keep her breathing at a regular pace as she felt excitement fill her. She had to stay calm, an increased blood pressure would only make the bleeding worse. The bandage was helping absorb some of the blood, but even that was now completely saturated with it.
That's right! Keep running! And tell your insurgence that they better pray that their soldiers don't crack under torture!
Lyra winced at the memory... How many of her friends were being tortured this very minute? How many of her friends were dead? No, she couldn't think about that. After all, it wasn't about who was dead, it was about who was alive. It was about getting back to camp as soon as possible, and reporting this. They needed help... All those people being held captive, they needed help. Twilight wouldn't just ignore them, they couldn't.

Silently, Tirran cast a spell to detect human life. A group of men was walking down the narrow forest path and -- he was surprised to see -- a man and woman were hidden in a nearby trunk.

Erebus felt as a drop of sweat hung off the tip of his nose, then with a barely audible -plip- hit the ground. He was trying to keep his breathing under control, but it was hard to catch his breath in a situation like this.
Suddenly, Erebus was aware that the Morgarus troops were passing right by them. He couldn't wait for the sound of iron heel hitting the muddy forest ground to cease.
He almost let himself breathe a sigh of relief, when he realized that not all the enemy troops had passed by. Some had stayed back to inspect the area. Erebus tried to remain as silent as possible so his armor wouldn't clink together. He was sure that the enemy troops were done here, when one bellowed, "What's that?" Erebus felt a sudden flash of dizziness and felt nauseous for a second. He had found something.
In the very corner of his peripherals, he could see part of the Morgaran stooping down to see something. Oh god... The enemy soldier had found several drops of Lyra's blood.
The Morgaran drew his sword and bellowed to his comrade, "Someone's near! Spread out and find them, whoever it is!" Erebus allowed himself to turn his head a bit to see that three of the soldiers were coming around the edge of the huge rotting trunk. They were going to find them...
Erebus leapt up with both the crossbow and the arbalest pointed directly at the enemy soldiers, and fired.
The arbalest bolt went straight through the first Morgaran, and embedded itself in the breastplate of the one behind him, knocking the man to the floor. Erebus flung the arbalest to the ground and used both hands to aim the crossbow.
He took aim and let a bolt fly.

A fight was breaking out between the people hiding in the tree trunk and the soldiers of Morgarus. Tirran didn't know who the people were, the human presence spell only showed their outlines, but if they were enemies of Morgarus they were allies of the Twilight. He let his invisibility spell diminish, and leapt into battle.

Lyra could hear the alarmed cry of the soldiers just outside, and felt her chest clench tightly. They had been found out. Lyra looked around frantically for the perpetrator, and found it quickly. A bit closer to home than she expected, the warm blood pouring out of her wound would have led a clear path to them. She only hoped Erebus would be able to fight them off. If not, they were doomed.
