Kari was still a little bit nervous to meet his roommate. When Kari entered, there was no sign of him, so the blonde boy just headed to the far bed and started unpacking his stuff. At least he got his own closet, even if it was suuuuper tiny. He'd forseen this problem, though, and totally brought tons of storage containers and those "fit more shit in your closet" squishy doodads. He'd make due somehow.
He looked around at the room, sighing. How annoyingly plain... and he was willing to BET his roommate would protest to him making it pretty, too! Stupid, stupid BOYS. Daddy hadn't mentioned shared rooms, damnit. Pouting, he started to make his bed. At least the dorm bed being a single instead of a queen meant he'd gotten to buy new everything.
He noticed while he was pulling the hot pink sheets over the his pillows (like he'd sleep on DORM pillows? Please.) that his furniture had already arrived, too. The mini fridge was safely plugged in and probably already full with stuff from Daddy. All the "dorm" cooking stuff had arrived too, although it was mostly just glorified hot pots and stuff. That was fine, though, he was better at cold food anyway.
Kari had finished making the bed and was getting ready to figure out how to put those damned bed curtains up.

Zeke was not confident about this.
He wandered down the empty halls that he knew like the back of his hand, the wheels of his suitcase clicking on the stone tile as he tugged it along behind him. Everything he owned was in that suitcase; mostly it was just clothing, school supplies, and a few precious books that the headmaster had given to him over the years. It might have seemed like a pitiful collection to his fellow students, but it was more than enough to sustain him. Zeke's dorm room was usually an example of minimalism at its finest. At least, until this year.
This year he had a double room, and a roommate, and oh god he would have to socialize. It wasn't that he didn't like people - quite the opposite, in fact - they just scared the shit out of him. People with their eyes that were watching and their thoughts he knew they were thinking, he had no idea what to make of them. Mr. Abelev thought he was ready to have a roommate without eating them, though, and so here he was.
...Not that he'd ever eaten a classmate before, but it was a valid concern.
Gentle rustling could be heard on the other side of the door to his new room. Zeke took a moment to breathe, telling himself that the guy would be nice, that there was nothing to be afraid of, that everything was going to be fine. Just fine. Calmer now, he opened the door and peered inside-- and immediately froze.
He wasn't sure what he'd been expecting, but it sure as hell wasn't this. Delicate, long-haired, distinctly female - what was she doing in the boys' dorms? Had he made a mistake?
Utterly confused, he looked back at the room number, then at his schedule, then at his apparent roommate once more. He realized that he was staring and his gaze quickly darted to his feet.
"Ah, sorrytobotheryouI'lljust, um," came his stumbling, half-coherent apology. "Wrong room." He would just... leave now. Yeah, leaving sounded good.

Kari jumped when the door opened and spun around, nervously smoothing out his skirt. This was it, Kari... make it or break it. Did his pigtails look okay? Was he overdressed? UNDERDRESSED? AAAH!
The boy himself didn't look too scary. He might have been a little bit older than Kari, but not too much. He wasn't super tall, a little shorter than average, maybe. He was kinda girly, actually, although not nearly on the level of Kari-girliness. Still, he'd look good in a pony tail, if Kari could convince him to--FOCUS KARI. FOCUS.
"Uuuuh, hi?" Kari said, right before the boy let out a strangled yelp that was sort of like words. Kari frowned. "Man, seriously? Room 349? No? Not it? Fuck!" he suddenly swore, throwing himself onto the bed. "I cannot TAKE this suspense! I am NEVER going to find out who this freakin' "Ezekiel" guy is, I swear!" He looked as if he was about to take it out on that pillow, too. He sighed, then turned back to the boy. "Well, if you see him, for the love of god, tell him I don't bite." He needed his panda bear, NOW. He shifted to get it out of his bag.

Zeke was just about to back away and close the door when he heard his name. So… he had come to the right place. Did Mr. Abelev know his new roommate was apparently a girl? Did he do this on purpose? Wasn’t he in the boys’ dorm section? Oh, god, this was confusing.
“Ah... that is me, actually.” His voice only half-matched him; small and quiet, but softer than his bedraggled appearance would imply. He nervously ran his fingers through his tangled hair. Now that he’d started to make an ass of himself, he may as well finish the job. “I guess this is the right room after all. Sorry …” This was more talking than he was used to with a stranger. He hoped his teeth weren’t too creepy-looking. Or his eyes, or his hair, or any other part of him really…
Way to make a first impression.

Kari was unhappily pulling out his panda bear, upset by his stress and his roommate's apparent lack of willingness to enter the god damned room. Maybe he'd already put two and two together and figured out that "Kari" was the crossdressing freak who'd been chased across campus, and had ALREADY demanded a room change. He clutched the panda bear to his chest, not even really aware that the "wrong room" guy was still there. He was tearing up... this freaking sucked!
And then his ear metaphorically perked up. "...Huh?" he said, blinking. "...Seriously? Have you been going through all the rooms trying to find the right one, or something? Didn't they tell you the room number and roommate name?" he asked, holding up the index card he'd written "349, Ezekiel Waters" on.
"Oh, sorry, I don't mean to be an ass... Talk about shitty first impressions. Sorry." He stood up, still clutching to the panda bear, brushed out his skirt to make it even, and walked over to shake his roommate's hand. "I'm Kari Trueman, pleased to meet you."

"Well, yes." He glanced down at his own schedule, with the room number and roommate listed. This was definitely the right place. "It's just that these are the boys' dorms..."
Why was she apologizing? It wasn't her fault - he was the one who made this way more awkward than it needed to be. It was just what he did - she'd learn that soon enough. And really, he blamed Mr. Abelev at the heart of it; the man really needed to work on his communication skills. Zeke didn't mind the "eccentric old guy" routine, but it could be awfully impractical in times like these. Knowing ahead of time that his roommate was gonna be wearing a skirt would have been great.
"Oh no, it's my fault, really..." He was already rattling off an apology when Kari stood up and offered her hand. For a moment Zeke didn't understand what she was doing-- oh, yes, a handshake. Normal people did those. He took her hand and shook it, very gently, just to be safe. "Um, I'm Zeke. Nice to meet you too."

Kari looked exceedingly confused at Zeke's confusion. "Why... yes, they are..." he said, raising an eyebrow before he finally realized what was going on. "Oh! Shit! I'm passing!" He eagerly shook Zeke's hand before running over to the mirror. It was far too small and Kari was already making plans of getting a full body length one.
"I've been at home too long... I hadn't realized I could pass that well," he said gleefully, turning around and checking himself out in the mirror. Then he blinked. Oh. Right. Roommate. "Oh, uh... Right. I'm Kari Trueman, male, pleased to meet you. My father owns Truer Foods. And he's always endulged my, um... quirks." He pointed down at his skirt. "I hope it's not too weird for you. I really am actually a boy, biologically; I just like these clothes. And, um... pink things," he added, as if it wasn't obvious.

Kari's excitement was only met with more confusion; what did she mean? He watched her flounce over to the mirror and give herself a thorough once-over, clearly preoccupied with the fact that she was "passing". For a moment he just stared, waiting for her to remember that he was standing in the doorway and wondering if he should ask her what she meant...
And then, it clicked. Well, it didn't quite click - it was more like all the gears in his head came to a screeching halt, and for a moment, he looked like someone had just dumped a bucket of ice water on his head. More like several moments.
Male?
Well. It wasn't that he minded, really, but the shock of it still had him speechless.
"...Oh." But she-- he was so pretty and that was a skirt, and-- "N-No, not weird, just, uh... just unexpected, I guess..." Zeke scanned the room, taking in all the little things his roommate had been adding before he got there. There was certainly a lot of pink in this room, yes. "Ah-- sorry for all the confusion, it's just, you really look like a..."
At least he knew what "passing" meant now.

Seconds ticked by in long silence as Kari maintained his nervous smile and Zeke... well... Zeke was, apparently, broken. He just sort of stared, as if someone had teleported a raptor into his bedroom and he hadn't quite processed the reality yet.
He just sort of stared blankly for a moment while Kari shifted uncomfortably. He couldn't think of any words to fill the silence, because, well... what more was there to say? "You are correct, good sir, I have a penis"?
After what felt like an eternity of intensly awkward silence, Zeke finally managed to form words. "...Yeah," Kari said, definitely feeling the awkward. QUICK KARI. USE YOUR KARI POWERS, HOW DO YOU KILL THIS? "Is it the hair?" he asked suddenly and with a bit of forced cheerfulness. Yes, that was it! He could talk about his hair for years on end! "I've been growing it out for years now," he said, running his hand through one of the long, blonde pigtails. He sat back down on his pink bedspreaded bed. "I hope you don't mind the decorations. It was just so PLAIN in here..."

Zeke nodded, not sure how to proceed with this conversation. The hair certainly helped; he'd never seen it that long on a boy before. Obviously this wasn't a normal boy - neither of them were, really, so did he really have any right to be so shocked? Kari hadn't seemed bothered by him yet. He just needed to calm down and act like a normal person. It couldn't be that hard...
"Oh, it's okay," he said, looking the room over again. "I never really decorated before, so I don't have much of a preference..." Granted, pink frills wouldn't have been his first choice, but his roommate got here first. Nothing he could do about it now except keep it confined to Kari's side of the room; and even then, it wasn't like he minded too terribly. He pulled his little suitcase over to his bed and sat down, hoping that the awkward was diffused enough now. "So... are you new here? I don't recognize you."

Kari nodded eagerly. "Yeah, I just got here. Have you been going to school here for a while?" He'd met someone who'd been there for two years. He kind of hoped he wasn't like the only new student in his grade or something... that would make everything even more nerve-wracking, he was sure of it. "Um, what grade are you in?" he asked, winding a finger through his hair. "I'm in eighth. Just fourteen years old!" he said with a wink. He knew he tended to look that young or younger because of the hormone blockers, but he still liked being cute about it, damnit.
"Oh, I've uh... I've got more stuff coming," he added sheepishly. "Boxes, and um... you know, some... furniture." The fact Zeke had only a suitcase let him know that he was maybe a little bit over packed.

First year, as he thought. With some of them you could just tell - never mind that he recognized nearly everyone now, seeing new faces come and old ones go every year. Nothing unusual here.
"Yeah, about thirteen years now..." He rubbed the back of his head, knowing that it seemed like an awfully long time to most people. "I'll be fifteen soon, so ninth grade." Fourteen, really? She He looked younger. Must've been why he passed so well as a girl.
"Oh, that's okay," he said, a little bewildered that there was going to be more. Furniture? Where was this kid from? "It's not like there's much in here to begin with."

Kari's eyes widened. "Thirteen YEARS?" Christ! He'd been in here almost as long as Kari'd been alive! That was totally insane! He didn't even look like he was that much older than Kari, but he had to be... Oh. "You're only a year older than me?" Kari asked, dumbstruck. Why had he been in here since he was TWO? Kari shook his head.
"Geez, you must have a really obvious power if they figured you out when you were two..." he said sadly. "I'm sorry. Or... maybe one of your family members works here?" He tilted his head, trying to figure out the mystery that was a two year old mutant being sent into what was basically protective custody. Kari was quickly learning that the world was dangerous for mutants, but his upbringing had been so happy tha the was having a bit of trouble wrapping his head around it.
"I, uh, I cook," Kari added lamely to try and answer his question. "It's not like I'm bringing a full stove or anything, just a few small things so I can cook in the dorm. If, uh, if that's okay with you. I'll open the windows and stuff."

"Well, I mean, as soon as I started teething it was pretty obvious..." he said, gesturing to his mouth. His shark-like teeth looked wrong in a human mouth, and he was certain that Kari had noticed it; everybody noticed it. The fact that he didn't seem affected at all was a little strange, to be honest. He was probably just being polite; Zeke appreciated that. He knew people found it weird, but it was nice to go without a reminder every time he met someone new. He glanced down at his feet. "I'm not related to anybody here or anything. 'S just the way I look. It's okay - I don't mind it here." In fact, the outside world terrified him so much, he would be happy if he could just live at Ansembourg and bury himself in Mr. Abelev's books forever.
"That's fine," he said, looking up again at the mention of cooking. "I don't mind. I'm really not very picky. There'll be a little fridge in here for my food, too..."

Kari squinted at leaned forward, peering at Zeke's teeth. "Oh, hey, you're right," he said, blinking. "Sorry, I'm uh, blonde," he said with a sheepish giggle, gesturing towards his long pigtails. "If the world ended, I probably wouldn't notice."
Kari blinked. "Huh... So your parents sent you here? I guess that's as good idea as any when you can't hide very well." He rubbed his head. "I'm still getting used to this whole thing, to be honest with you. This was kind of dropped on me suddenly, so I don't really... understand. I never had to think about it before, you know?"
Kari brightened up at the mention of a fridge, though. "Maybe I could cook for you sometime. Do you have a specialized diet? I am GREAT at specialized diets. I used to be a vegetarian!"
