Kari was cooking again. His door was once again open on purpose, to attract people in with the delicious scent of cooking food. The security guards wouldn't scold him unless he set something on fire, especially if he kept bribing the big one with food. Tonight's menu (as written on the chalkboard hanging from his door) was lamb, fruit salad, and eggplan, although he'd flowered it up appropriately.
It was mostly almost done. The lamb sat resting, cooling slightly and preparing itself to be cut. Kari was putting the whipped cream he'd made on top of the fruit salad. He had the veggies sliced and ready to go. In a matter of ten minutes, he'd be done... and despite the delicious smells wafting out of his room, no one was there. Nic was hanging out with Lilith and her depressive friend, Zeke was with Jacob, and Kari was all alone and rather upset about it.
He poured the oil onto the hot pan with a vengeance, not caring as some of it sizzled up and splashed him. Here he was, toiling over a hot stove (albeit he enjoyed it) in short shorts, a tank top and a frilly pink apron, and he couldn't get a single god damned friend! Fuck this school!

Maybe this was a little harder than Alex thought it would be.
It wasn't bad, really - he had no right to complain. There were kids ten times worse off than he was, but the visions were just so much more vivid with nothing to numb them, and... well. He had to look on the bright side. Always look on the bright side. He was here, he was safe, he was meeting new people and forgetting old ones... the bright side. Right.
Tonight was quieter than usual, so he'd decided to tempt fate and wander a little. Castles were cool when they weren't filled with dying people - and really, most of that shit happened outside, so he felt sort of okay about poking his head around strange corners and down badly lit hallways. Sort of; key phrase there. Still, no disembodied heads or dudes with swords had jumped out at him yet, so that was good. Was that a new record? It was almost a little creepy - he couldn't remember the last time it was this quiet.
...What was that smell?
He stopped right there, on the stairs leading up to the boys' tower dorms. Someone was cooking. He forgot all about the creepy empty silence; a man had priorities, after all. He followed the smell to its source, noticing the chalkboard menu hanging from the open door. So they were expecting people? He hoped they wouldn't mind a random hungry stranger too.
"Knock-knock," he called out, knocking on the open door for good measure.

Kari sighed into the eggplant. Why did they always knock? The goddamned door was open! THERE WAS A MENU ON IT. Why did they always knock?
"C'mon iiin," he said, not actually looking up from his cooking. Multi-tasking was a delicate balance, after all. "S'almost ready." He spared a quick glance up, not recognizing the voice. Someone new, that was always nice. It was another boy though. Where were all the girls hiding in this school? Still, never look a gift horse in the mouth and all that.
"Sit anywhere, it's aaaalmost done. I'm Kari, bee tee double-you." He paused to throw the eggplants in a frying pan and get cooking. "Oh, and there's a table that pulls out from that nightstand if you could get that? I've got a chair in my closet."
