Kadin liked being outside. Really, he did. Whenever he was a little kid he'd always play outside with his friends for hours and hours and then, when their mothers called them home, he'd play outside for a couple more hours. Sometimes he could even get away with staying in the backyard after dark, but eventually his mother would always remember him and he'd be called into the house. He'd get fed whatever he managed to make or find himself for dinner and then he'd go strait to his room. Those were his two favorite places. Outside, the more trees and grass he could see the better, or his room.
He wasn't at home anymore. He hadn't been for the year before this, either, this would be the boy's second year at Ansembourg Boarding School and he still hadn't figured out where his favorite places were. Last year had been a bit... stressful. He'd been assigned a roommate. His roommate wasn't a bad roommate, but... it didn't work out. Kadin had always liked having a place that he could call his, his own, and even just the presence of another person breaking his solitude it... it didn't work.
He'd had his own room for the second half of the year and this year as well. Hopefully there wouldn't be a repeat of his first year's problems. His room was his haven. It was where he could hide away. Kadin had been a bit surprised to find out that he was assigned to the basement, but it also felt fitting, in a way. No one else would be down there unless they also had a room there. He'd be completely and perfectly alone and undisturbed.
Kadin still loved the outdoors, but he had mixed feelings about the company. This was a school, after all, and it was hard to find a place where other kids were out of sight, where he could relax and watch the clouds go by or practice burning twigs. Hiding in the library was a better place if he wanted solitude in a public place, but it was also more risky for him to be around so much dried paper. Especially if someone decided to annoy him.
The sitting room was almost never empty. There were various other hiding places, scattered here and there, but none of them ever appealed to the boy like the outdoors. Really, it was pointless for him to try and fight it. As long as no one came up to him, he'd be fine and untroubled, anyway.
At least, that's what Kadin told himself as he walked from the castle towards a small grove a trees, intent on climbing today. He'd dressed lightly, in just a Tshirt and kaki shorts, despite the slight chill in the air that'd encourage jeans and maybe a light jacket. He could always warm himself better then any fabric if he really needed to, after all.

Kari wasn't particularly SURPRISED that he was running in terror, possibly for his life, but he wasn't happy about it, either. As he tore up the hill, he had to stop and reflect on his actions leading up to this point.
Wearing a dress and going to a party... nothing wrong with that. Coming home at a decent hour... nope still good. Forgetting to take his heels off before bolting? AH, there we go. That one was the mistake.
Thankfully, they were very small and wide heels, so he was managing okay. As long as he didn't fall and twist his ankle, he'd probably make it away from the small mob ready to assault him for looking so damn gorgeous.
He was wearing his dark pink dress with the ribbon under his bust that made him look like he actually had sizeable breasts for once, without him having to silicone himself to Mars and back. He had the cute little ribbons in his hair and the cute little bangles on and he was just plain adorable. The party had been great. The homecoming could use some work.
Kari, however, saw his salvation at the top of the hill. This could either go perfectly or be a disaster, depending on how much this stranger knew about the "new boy" at school. He'd take the risk. He bolted around behind the guy. "Ssssshhhh," he whispered as cutely as he could, ducking behind the black haired fellow and staying away from line of sight of the small crowd that would possibly come up that hill. "I'm hiding from a MOB."

Kadin didn't get it. Seriously, he didn't. What about him could possibly say 'Hey! Come bother me!'. He'd always been under the impression that his anti-social preferences just radiated from him and that was why he never really made any close friends last year at this school. Not that he even needed friends, he got all the school work just fine and had never been much of an attention whore. But. Guh.
The boy had turned his head to watch some girl run away from a crowd of boys, not really all that interesting in what was happening, but kinda curious about all the noise. He moved a bit to the side since she seemed to be running right at him, but it was all in vane. For some reason, the girl had gotten it into her head that he'd serve as a good hiding place from all the boys who were at the bottom of the hill, but climbing fast.
Kadin glanced over his shoulder, a sort of vaguely annoyed expression on his face at being involved in whatever was happening, but he didn't push her away to the mercy of her followers. Instead he just sighed and stood there, waiting to receive said mob in whatever state they came up in.
Flustered and out of breath, the boys reached the top of the hill and looked around, wide-eyed and angry, unable to spot where Kari had ran off to. After several moments of looking confused, they turned on Kadin and demanded, "Which way'd he go?!"
All the boys got in response was a cold look and a half-shrug. Kadin didn't like the look of them. He wasn't going to out some girl without knowing what they were so pissed off about, especially not to a crowd so stupid that they couldn't even speak.
Kadin's reward for his kindness was some curses as the mob quickly split itself up and ran off in different directions to search for their prey. Idiots. Kadin watched them go and then he glanced back at Kari again, said nothing, and proceeded to walk away towards his trees.

Kari's hint had been dead on. The guy was big enough for him to hide behind without the crowd seeing. He all but plastered himself to the guy, biting his lip with nervousness. He couldn't run THAT much further in these damn heels. But thankfully, the nice tall fellow led them away, and Kari was able to breathe a sigh of relief as he followed Kadin towards the trees.
"Geez... thanks for that. I thought I was a dead man, so to speak," he said with a sigh. He paused to undo his shoes and slip out of them, enjoying the feel of grass on his feet. "It's nice out here... have you been at this school long? It's my first year."

So, maybe Kadin wasn't totally clear when he sent that gang of idiots off on a wild goose chase and then gave his rescued damsel a parting glance. He should have narrowed his eyes and made the look colder or something, now she thought that he wanted her COMPANY. Guh. So this is what happens when you offer someone some kindness. They end up following you around like a lost puppy when you just want to be left alone.
"It was nothing." The boy muttered, not bothering to look at Kari. Seriously, he hadn't even said one word to the lot of them. There were a few faces he recognized in the crowd, too, and he committed them to memory just for future reference. Not that he'd ever be in the business of making friends, but if he ever was he didn't plan on befriending the kinds of guys who'd chase after and torment a lone girl. "It's my second."
As he reached the edge of the small grove, Kadin paused and turned to look at the girl. His face was pretty blank, as usual, but he raised his eyebrows and said with what he hoped was a pointed tone. "Maybe you should head for the dorms now while they're separated and don't know where to look. I bet they won't try to bother you once you're in the school."
In other words, I'd like it if you'd kindly go away. Not that it's anything personal, Kadin just didn't see the point in keeping her company. He was sure she was a perfectly nice girl and good at making friends and all that shit, but he wasn't the type of guy she should be trying to make friends with. He was (dun-dun-DUN) anti-social. And while the 'aloof loner' might be a tempting sort of prey to some girls, he didn't really plan on humoring any advances. Friendly or otherwise.

Kari made a face. "Alright, I can take a hint. But to be honest, I'm scared I'll be rooming with one of them." He glanced sidelong towards the castle. He was just dead certain he was going to get a complete psychopath for a roomate. Some great hairy brute... He was FUCKED. "I didn't even realize that you shared dorms here... Dad just sent me off cause I paralyzed a whole bunch of thugs and it got on the news." He smiled cheerfully, as if he'd just announced he had a high grade point average.
"You're a second year, so... if you show me around, I'll make you a meal. I just checked, the people in the cafe will let me use it--one of the chefs has a crush on me, I think--and I know for a fact I can cook WAY better food than they can! I have a refridgerator in my room full of ingredients, and Dad sends more every week!" he announced cheerfully.
If it wasn't obvious, Kari came from, uh... rich stock. Very rich stock. He was Daddy's little angel, and he enjoyed it very much. Actually, being away from home was going to be difficult for him. He was a bit of a spoiled little princess.

While Kadin didn't particularly care that Kari was a bit put off at his less then subtle hint, he was somewhat impressed by what the boy assumed was his power. While paralyzing idiots wasn't the deadliest of powers, it sounded useful for getting out of tight spots. He kinda wondered why Kari hadn't just paralyzed the gang of kids that was chasing him around...
"If you can't handle your roommate, get your own room. The headmaster listens to special cases. I just had to tell him that I might set my roommate on fire (by accident) if they annoyed me." Not that he was telling Kari to leave or he'd set him on fire, but the point still stood. The knowledge that his power might not always be controllable was enough to make anyone think twice about messing with him. While he never had any major mistakes while he was on the outside, Kadin had been becoming more and more loose with his powers since coming here.
The boy sighed at Kari's proposal. He wasn't really looking for a new BFF FOREVER, but if the kid was going to be that determined to spend time with a guy like him then he'd put up with it for now. "Fine." The boy turned and nodded in the direction of the trees that he'd been so eager to reach. "We'll start here. These are the best trees to climb on the grounds, if you ever need a place to hide. Or get out of reach." Kadin looked back at Kari, somewhat curiously. "What parts of the castle have you seen so far?"

"Oh, I wouldn't want to take singles away from the kids with actual issues with their powers," Kari said, a bit sadly. "I can't control mine that well, but the worst that's gonna happen if I get upset is they won't be able to move for an hour or so. I've heard there are people here who could kill someone, or, you know, set them on fire, apparently... People like that should have the singles. If it's really a problem, I'll just ask to switch roommates."
Kari wasn't concerned that Kadin might light him on fire. First off, he wasn't that annoying, second off, he had a gut feeling that Kadin was all talk, and third off, he was pretty sure that he could paralyze Kadin and set him on fire while burning, then roll down a hill and pray.
"My dorm," Kari answered cheerfully. And that was it. "I just got here. I got jumped in the bathroom and I've been running since, so I didn't really get a good look at things. I'm not very good at climbing trees," he admitted, looking at them. "Does this place have any large bodies of water?"

The boy glanced over at Kari, a bit surprised that someone who looked so spoiled was taking into consideration something like that instead of jumping at the opportunity to get her own room. She'll probably be singing a different tune in a couple of days if she ended up hating her roommate, but whatever. It wasn't for Kadin to interfere. He didn't care. "If every person capable of killing someone had their own room, we'd need a bigger castle." If you really thought about it, every human was capable of murder. But Kadin wasn't speaking completely about people in general.
At Kari's answer to his question, the boy couldn't help but let out a small sigh. They'd have a whole lot of ground to cover in that case. "There's a pool that you'll have to swim in for P.E." Kadin was quite for a minute or so before mentioning something else he'd heard around campus. "I heard some guys talkin' about some place off-campus to swim, too, but I've never been there. Wouldn't be surprised if they were just talkin'."
All of a sudden, Kadin had an inspired idea! "Do you wanna head there first? The pool?" Part of the boy was kinda hoping that they'd run into some of those morons who was chasing around... shit. "Oh. What's your name, kid?" Yeah, he could really do with setting some jackasses on fire. It'd make him feel better about his interrupted alone time, at the very least. And if he was REALLY lucky, Kari might get scare for his own safety and ask to go back to his room early. Two birds with one stone.

Kari looked at him with a funny expression on his face. "Are you serious? I've been here five minutes and I already know everyone here is capable of murder. The guy who gave me a tour could blow me off a cliff, or just pick me up with air and drop me. I could paralyze someone and put them in front of a train, drop them out of a building, hell, anything. And you, well, you DO have your own room." Kari sighed. "Most of us could probably kill someone without even meaning to. Isn't that why we're here?"
Kari blinked at his statement. "Oooh, we swim for PE? I hope they don't mind my suit," he said, frowning. "I will DIE if they make me wear trunks, swear to god. Daddy said this place would be understanding, though..." He was lost in thought for a few minutes, clearly troubled.
"Huh? Oh! Yeah, sure, let's go there... Maybe we'll run into the teacher or something, I can go ahead and ask him... chances are we'll be doing it soon, while the weather is still warm. My name's Kari, by the way, sorry I didn't introduce myself properly. Kari Trueman. My dad owns Truer Foods!" he added cheerfully, as if Kadin could give a rat's ass. "And you?"

Kadin gave Kari a funny look right back. "Sorry, Kari, but I can't really see you dragging anyone off a building." He gave the 'girl' a pointed once-over, not only taking into account her clothing and what he knew of her personality so far, but also her size. She didn't look like she'd be dragging anyone very far, not for a couple of years at least. Somewhat aware that his statement might have been taken a wrong way, the boy did have on a faint half-smile at his own joke, but whatever.
The boy shrugged and turned away, walking off in the direction of the gym complex and the pool. He just sort of assumed that Kari would follow since he wanted a tour and everything. "I guess." Kadin couldn't help but look a bit puzzled, glancing over at Kari when he mentioned trunks. Why would a girl be required to wear swimming trunks...? Was she a... no. But. Understanding? What? OF what? Damn it, now he'd have to ask. "Why would they make you wear trunks?"
He tried to resist rolling his eyes as Kari gave him her full name plus what her daddy does for work. He really tried. But at least he kinda hide it by looking in the other direction from her, towards... stuff. "It's Kadin." He didn't bother telling Kari what his daddy did, he probably didn't even know himself. His last name didn't matter in a place like this, there were no other Kadins. That all he was. Kadin.

"Well," Kari said very seriously. "I hope I never have to. I only got sent here because a paralyzed a mob, but you know... I could probably push someone off a cliff if it was me or them," he said with a nod. "Couldn't you?" He blinked. "Wow, sorry, I turned this morbid out of nooooowhere. And, well," he looked to the side, suddenly uncomfortable. "I dunno what their... policies... are... you know?" People who were open minded in other ways suddenly became verrry picky when it came to swim suits, Kari had found. Kari didn't even like swimming that much, but... well... if it was for PE, he'd have to, wouldn't he? He'd figure out a way. He still had those realistic silicones... He sighed, then realized he was sighing out loud. "Ug, sorry for getting all angsty again, I just really hate the way I look in swim suits." He rolled his eyes. "I'll get over it.
"Hi, Kadin," he said cheerfully. "If everyone else here is as reluctantly nice as you, I'm sure I'll be fine."

"Um..." Kadin honestly didn't think that he'd ever kill anyone just out of spite or revenge. He knew he was capable of it, sure, and if it was life or death he might do it out of necessity, but hopefully a situation like that would never happen. Honestly, he didn't feel comfortable talking about it, especially not with a kid like Kari. She just wasn't the type of person you'd EXPECT to hear this from.
The boy was relieved when, all of a sudden, Kari seemed to come to his senses and drop the topic altogether. Great, it saved Kadin from having to think of something to say. After all, the boy was all flash and bang whenever it came to dealing with idiots, he didn't actually ever plan on burning up someone unless they wouldn't back off or threatened him. Even then... he doubted that he'd ever take it as far as Kari was saying.
"...No. I don't know. I don't know if I care enough to keep up the questions, either. ... Don't worry about it." Kadin said with a shrug as they drew steadily closer to the gym complex. If the kid was gonna be unclear, then whatever, it's not like they were going to be best friends or that Kadin was gonna try to make a move on Kari. God no. The boy would just satisfy himself with knowing that Kari was weird. There was no possible way that someone who looked like that was a boy or something, so maybe she just had scars or something that she was worried the teacher would want her to hide. ... Yeah.
Ok, that made him crack a smile. He was a bit suspicious that Kari wouldn't have as easy a time of it as he was thinking, considering that mob, but he was just as sure that the kid'd make friends. She was friendly enough. "I'm sure you'll be popular in no time." Like that was a good thing at a school like this.

If Kari could have read minds, he would have absolutely pitched a laughing fit. He hadn't even come to the school expecting to "pass," as people concerned about that sort of thing had phrased it. But, he supposed, hormone blockers would do that. Of course, he'd have to think up an alternate plan in a year or so... The doctors weren't keen on the health problems of him just not entering puberty.
Kari was only half aware of the fact he could be uncomfortably morbid for a boy in a pink skirt. Maybe it was just a quirk of his, or maybe he just plain put way too much thought into the subject. Either way, he was more than willing to let it drop and move on.
"Oh, I dunno about that," he said, waving his hand with a laugh. "I might look like a totally stereotypical popular cheerleader type most of the time, but I've certainly never been popular! Actually, Daddy hired a private tutor for me, and I'm not very used to going to a school like this," he admitted. "Kids were awful in elementary school, though, so I'm nervous." The whole angry mob thing hadn't really instilled him with a lot of confidence, either.

"Elementary school is a shit place to be. This can be your 'new start', I guess." Like so many of the other kids here, coming from a place where they just didn't fit in. Being bullied, abused, abandoned, runaways were all common stories here. Kadin himself didn't exactly have a happy home life, but he was damn lucky not to have had it as bad as some of the kids could claim. He might never admit it, but he was grateful for that much. Didn't mean that his life hadn't been bad, but still.
The boy pushed against one of the big double doors, frowning when it didn't open. He tried the other an didn't give off much of a reaction when it obeyed, stepping silently inside the big gymnasium. They were currently standing in a combination basketball court and... well, anything else. It was just the common ground where lines could be set up for any sport the kids wanted to play indoors.
"We do activities in here during the winter, but the gym teacher is crazy. We're outside a lot when its warm, sometimes he'll even make kids run laps around the castle if they annoy him too much. The doors to the locker rooms are over there." He said, gesturing towards two door-sized holes in the walls that were undoubtedly then entrances he spoke of. "There's a second exit off them to the showers and through there you can get to the pool... Most kids shower in the castle, but sometimes you can walk in on... stuff. The pool has another entrance, most kids use that if they aren't in class."
He began leading the way to the tunnels, not really caring if Kari just followed him through the boy's side or if she too the girl's side. He doubted that anyone would be in there right now, anyway, so it's not like it would really matter.
