Hitojita saw Makena's expression go blank and he said he had no family, but he wasn't alone. He had the sky. She smiled slightly for a moment, but then her face became serious once again. Yes, the sky was good company indeed, but she couldn't enjoy it as much now because she was on the run...Then she noticed he look at bit concerned. For her or was it something she said?
Hitojita had remained silent for a bit. As she sat there she felt something...perhaps someone was watching them? She shivered at the thought. She looked around warily for a moment and then Makena asked her a few questions. Was she a traveler too and what was she doing out here? Could she tell him? He seemed trustworthy enough, but then again anyone could. Was it worth the risk? Finally she decided what she would tell him.
"Yes. I am a traveler as well. I am out here because.....because of something from my past.I am running from my...my...master..." She hesitated a few times and when she said the word master it came out in a bitter tone, like she had tasted something sour.

Makena nodded as if he knew what she meant, but in truth he didn't understand at all. Master... he didn't like the sound of that word. Hitojita didn't seem fond of it, either. What did it mean? Something bad...
"So..." he began tentatively. The unfamiliar word could wait, as another idea had planted itself in his mind. "You are running, and I am lost," he said, eyes hopeful. "Would it be okay if I stayed with you for a little bit?" Not many travelers would agree to that, but this girl seemed understanding. He leaned towards her, hands clasped, and smiled. "Since neither of us really has any place to go?"

All this talk was nothing but a bore to her, meaningless chatter. Why, then, could she not pull herself away? She hissed lowly, eyes narrowing. She didn't want any of that... she didn't. No companionship, no family, no friendship. No one would give it to her, and so she did not want it. She refused to. She shook some hair from her eyes, retreating back in the shadows. There was nothing here for her... she paused for a moment, though. Master. That word. It flashed many images through her mind - some bloody, some unnaturally clean... all painful. Her eyes twisted back to the two figures, something unbidden riding within her. She hated that word, more than anything. She had no master! She had escaped, and so it was that she was free. This one, this strange one who smelled of mountain winds and ashen flames; she was the same, and yet she denied her own freedom. Why?
Why? She didn't understand it. Half of her fought in rage, demanding her body to go down there and beat some sense into that one. You had no master, only captors who dared try to keep those who could not be held. No one could control you, and you were trapped by no chain once you escaped it! She should forget her ties, flee to someplace new... and the other half of her shied back. It knew that though some truth resided there, you could never fully escape the past that held you like a slave on a rope. The wind shifted behind her, blasting cold air onto her back. She shook her head again, a hiss too loud erupting from her as her thoughts began to clear. Conflict, always conflict! What she wouldn't give just to be but one again..

Hitojita watched Makena nod as if he understood. Then he turned to her, a hopeful look in his eyes, and asked if he could travel with her. He wanted to travel with her? Well, it was true that neither of them had anywhere to stay or call home. They were both alone. Perhaps it would be alright. He seemed trustworthy enough. Not like others she had met who seemed like they would give away information if there was something good in it for them. Makena seemed like he could keep secrets, if she chose to reveal them. She came out of her thoughts and looked at him, a slight smile on her face. She nodded and replied.
"Yes. I would like to travel with you Makena." She said, a look of trust in her eyes. Though, there was also a bit of caution lurking there too like always. A swift wind blew through the ruins, making Hitojita's cape and hood wave a bit. She sensed there was something or someone nearby. Was it another traveler...or was it...them? She tensed a bit for a second and scanned the area for signs of anyone else that might be close by.

He grinned, satisfied, then followed her gaze into the darkness that now surrounded them. Had Hitojita heard something? He had heard nothing... scooting a little closer to her, he tucked his blue hair behind one ear and craned his neck to listen.
"Is something there?" He spoke quieter than before, though it was far above a whisper. A faint hiss seemed to carry on the wind. It easily could have been the rustling of the nearby trees, but he was almost certain that it was not that.

Hitojita noticed Makena scoot a bit closer to her and ask if something was there. He spoke more quietly...was he afraid, or just cautious? She nodded her head. She was sure there was something in the surrounding area. Along with sensing the presence she thought she had heard a hiss on the wind. Something was definately out there, but what was it? Hitojita looked at Makena after she scanned the area again. If it was something dangerous would she have to protect Makena? He only looked like a young teen.
The wind shifted and headed back towards the trees. Hitojita's gaze followed it and she looked at the forest that was a little ways away from the ruins that she and Makena were currently sheltering in. Was it in there? It was possible. Maybe it was waiting for them to fall asleep so it could attack. She felt a bit unerved the presence.

She froze like a drop of winter rain, final hiss trailing off. The wind remained on her back for several more seconds, making her blood go colder, colder... They knew she was here now. There would be no more hiding and waiting in secret, if that was what she desired. Should she flee from here? Should she face them? She shook her head slowly, conflict battering again. Why couldn't she just decide? Her eyes caught them whispering, she didn't have much time. The wind changed again, blasting her back in the face. She gave an involuntary gasp, moving backwards a pace.
She clicked into focus then, and her body moved before she had time to think. She snaked down, moving forward. She twisted her way beside a tree, hiding in the darkest shadows she could find. Her breath caught, held, and her form stilled to a stop, save for her beating heart. The faint light did not strike her form, but it moved faintly on things around her. From where she hid, two glints of dark amber peered out. She was ready for them - so let them come if they wished.

Hitojita continued to stare at the forest. It was in there. She was sure of it. She slowly got to her feet and faced the forest. Then she glanced at Makena as if to say 'Are you comming?' She held out her hand to help him up. It was time they should find out what was watching them. She pointed to the forest with her other hand.
"There's someone watching us. I'm going to check it out. You wanna come?" She whispered.

Makena watched as she stood, feeling a slight panic at the thought of her going alone. Things that had reason to hide themselves were rarely good, that much he knew. Why would the one watching them want to conceal itself? Hitojita said she was running from the one called "master". He didn't want that person to take her away-- what if this master was here and watching them? Hitojita would not go alone.
"Yes," he answered quickly, taking her hand and pulling himself up. "I will go." There wasn't much he could do in the way of fighting, he hated to admit, but he had come this far without injury. There was a chance that he could help. Cautious, he moved forward to stand beside her, vaguely noticing that they were the same height. Gah, what did that matter? He shook his head and looked at Hitojita. "You think it is a person?"

Hitojita let hehr hand drop to her side again once Makena had pulled himself up. He said he would go with her. Then he cautiously moved forward to stand next to her. Hey, he was the same height wasn't he? Hm, it didn't matter really. Makena shook his head and asked if she thought it was a person. Was it? She looked towards the forest and closed her eyes, searching for something in the precense that would tell her what it was. She opened her eyes again after a moment.
"No, it is not a person." Hitojita said and began to walk forward towards the forest. It was time to find out what this precense really was. She made her way out of th ruins and up to the edge of the forest. She peered into the shadows cast be the setting sun. Lighted spots flickered and moved occasionally, but other than that there seemed to be no movement. The precense had grown stonger though, so they had gotten closer to whatever it was.

She watched them slowly move forward, shrinking closer to the ground. So they were coming - let them come. Her lip curled, and she gave a gentle hiss to herself. They didn't look strong, and the male was young. Her eyes narrowed. Humph. She could rip them apart. She listened to them speak, lip curling. What a waste, all this chatter. Did they think she could not hear them, that she was as deaf as a human? What fools... hmm? Words caught her attention. 'Is it a person?' Is i- what sort of a question was that? She should have ripped his tongue out right then, and yet that was not the worse. 'No. It is not a person.'
That... that stung. She'd never felt shock quite like that before. Not... a person? Not human, maybe, but... she was a person. She was a person... wasn't she? ...maybe not. She'd always known herself different. Something not meant to exist. She felt it in the core of her being, that she was an abomination. They had told her she was nothing. She had told herself that she was nothing. Yet nothing stung quite like hearing it from someone who had never met her. Did she feel like nothing, too? Was her aura nothing but that of a beast? ..perhaps it was fitting. A humorless laugh echoed in her mind. Perhaps they'd always been right about her. Maybe she truly was nothing. Nothing but a beast.
"How kind of you to phrase it that way." She was surprised that she spoke. It pinpointed her even more directly, leaking out from her darkening hideaway. "Nice to know what people really think of me before they even set eyes upon me, hmm?" Her voice was wrong, too... as wrong as her twisted, opposite body. It was lighter, higher for a male, certainly.. but it was not her. She wasn't sure what was her, but it was certainly not that.

Makena glanced at Hitojita, his fear slight but steady now. If it was not a person, was it an animal? Surely an animal would have lost interest and run away by now, or so he thought. Not that he knew very much about this world... very worrying. He clasped his hands in front of him, trying to appear unthreatening, and moved ahead of her into the woods.
He paused for a moment, and it was then that another voice came, not quite in front of him. His head whipped to one side to see where it came from, and his eyes met with those of another, shining amber. What had she meant, it is not a person? People had eyes and voices and feelings, however unfriendly those may be... Makena was surprised to find that he didn't flinch at the harshness with which the male - at least, it sounded like a he - spoke. Remaining where he stood, he turned to face the one hiding, hands still joined in a gesture of what he hoped was peace.
"You sound like a person to me." He spoke calmly, earnestly. "Can we see you? It's a little hard to talk to a shadow."

Hitojita heard the voice. It was a high sounding male voice. It sounded a bit displeased perhaps? She walked up to stand by Makena. Then she saw the amber eyes. Yes, they looked human and the voice sounded human, but something about their precense did not feel human. It seemed kinda of...mixed up? She also thought she felt a flicker of conflict, but dismissed it. She focused on the situation before her.
"Yes. You do. Perhaps I was mistaken. Would you mind stepping out of the shadows so we can see you more clearly?" Hitojita asked calmly. She decided to be safe. She also stood in a mostly relaxed position, but some of her unease still showed in her posture. She had a calm expression, though her eyes were a bit questioning. As she stood there she thought she sensed a....Mazoku? She glanced to the sides momentarily and then looked back at the stranger. The feeling did not go away though. A bit of unease joined the questioning look in her eyes. She would wait and see what happened.

((SO SORRY FOR THE DELAY))
She waited, watching them for a few moments longer. The ashen-scented female was tense, but at least she was trying - no doubt her astral body was a disturbing thing to sense. The male was more welcoming to her, yet also... repelling. The Mazoku in her hissed and recoiled from his pleasant aura, the emotions feeling a rock in her side. She battled in those few moments, to trust the dragon or the Mazoku - the first won out. She could flee, it was true, but she held no desire to do so. It was befriend or fight, and she doubted the first could happen. Cautious, she moved forward, slinking out from the shadows so that the light hit her form.
She, first of all, was a he on the outside. She was a little smaller, little shorter than your average male, perhaps, but that was hardly the most noticeable thing about her. Even forcing her form to look as normal as she could manage, she still looked... starved, almost. Some form along those lines, her form was thin and bony, and dark around the slightly sunken eyes. She was sharp-edged, and pale. She looked anything but healthy, which wasn't far from the truth. Even with the two years she'd been free, she was not yet recovered from the harshness of her captivity - it was doubtful she ever would, completely.
"...does that satisfy your curiosity?" she said, her eyes narrow, and her mind waiting.

Hitojita waited as the presence seemed to be trying to decide on whether to come out or not. Finally he...or were they a she? She couldn't quite tell. That was a bit mixed up to her senses as well. They came out and her eyes widened. They had the body of a male and looked quite unhealthy. They were thin, bony, pale, and maybe a bit starved? What had happened to them?
"Who are you?" Hitojita asked in a mostly calm voice, though one could tell she was a bit shaken. Then she realized her body had tensed when the stranger had stepped out of the shadows. Perhaps she had been expecting something different from the strange aura she was sensing. There was more to this being. She had no doubts about it.
